Talking to Plants

Verse 1:

I’m three drinks into a twenty-year buzz

If I think hard I’ll remember where I was

You were on a balcony

And I was just inside the fence

You were three words into a two-minute speech

You bowed your head then looked up at me

And I didn’t return it

And you said “well that makes perfect sense”

Chorus:

That I

Won’t know, until it’s

Time to go, how I

Miss you so,

Why am I doing this?

The flowers

In your room, have started

To bloom, and if I

Know you

You’re talkin’ to your plants again

Verse 2:

I’m three lanes left of an exit sign

I could do worse than to try to get right

But it’s so much easier to stay in my own lane

I’m three seconds into another voicemail

You text back and say, “Quit giving me hell,

This is hard for both of us—

don’t you remember what you said?”

Chorus

Verse 3:

I heard that you moved to an up-and-coming town

And I’m well past the up-and-coming down

What you were saying,

I think it’s finally clear to see

Now you’re ten years into a five-year plan

And I’m doin’ just about the best that I can

Hard to say that that bouquet

Was the end for you and me

Chorus
